Hey everyone. 8:54pm here on Monday night (12:54pm there) and we just finished a game with Jackson and are winding down for the night. We had a great visit with the boys today. We had bought them each a coloring book with corresponding stickers to match up to numbers in the book. Those boys (including Jackson) worked on those books for about an hour! It was great! But, we have a really big prayer request for Philip (the oldest). He is not very interested in speaking any English with us right now. Ryan was repeating numbers for us today as Iwe were helping him with the stickers and Philip said one number after he heard us praise Ryan so much. It was actually funny hearing them try to repeat our southern accents! Anyway, Philip began writing out the Cyrillic alphabet and making Ryan repeat him. He would correct him if he didn't do it the right way. Our translator was sick today and didn't go with us, so I got our driver Yari to ask him if he was ready to learn English and he said "in America". So, I guess he's not going to try before then......well, we would like you to pray with us that his attitude softens toward learning English a little bit. Obviously, he is going through a lot of changes right now and we want to be very patient with him....but, we would prefer that the English comes sooner than later! We had pizza again for lunch....Jackson's request and headed on home. We have just spent the rest of the day hanging out together.

But, the biggest part of the day was probably my baby losing his first tooth. It has been extremely loose for our whole trip, but today it finally let go and came out. Unfortunately, the tooth washed down the drain of the sink. Greg was helping him brush his teeth and he saw what he thought was a lump of toothpaste and washed it on down the drain! So, we went ahead and gave Jackson what we thought the tooth fairy was going to give him for his first lost tooth. We gave him 40 grievna (I spelled this how it sounds) which currently equals around 5 dollars. He can't wait to spend it! He has already got his eye on a couple of build-it-yourself robots that are 20 grievna each! One more day to go before our court date! We love you and miss you all!

  1. Melanie! I'm so proud I found your blog through Jennifer Jones' FB link. I'm so excited for you and your family as you welcome your new sons into your family. My hubby and I spent almost 3 weeks in China when we adopted our daughter in '05. I hope you enjoy every inconvenience during your travels b/c it will soon be over (and I missed everything about China after our departure). Good luck & God bless! ~Sunny Martin S.

  2. Sounds like Jackson is having fun & finding fun toys there. Will he get to go to court?

I know it must be hard to wait for the boys to learn English-I can feel that in what you wrote. I'm not there & experiencing what you are so I can't say I'm feeling what you're both feeling. But from my perspective, it sounds like Philip is at least thinking about it & has decided when he makes the move to America he will start learning. So at least he has not refused & has his own timeframe in mind. Maybe this is his way of dealing with a huge transition. Even though it sounds like he is happy & excited about being adopted & calling you guys Mama & Papa already, he may still be apprehensive about leaving what he knows. The younger boy is probably more eager to please at his age. At least they will be together.

Could you guys try telling him you want to learn some Cyrillic letters or words & for each 1 or 2 you learn, he learns an English word? This would make it a game & he could be the teacher which would make him feel in control. Of course, I don't know the whole situation, so feel free to ignore my advice!

I'm hoping & praying your court date goes well & you can begin the countdown 'til ya'll come home!

  4. You're on our hearts and minds EVEN MORE than usual on this special day - if that's actually possible! We're praying for you moment by moment, and I know you're covered on every minute detail. One step closer to bringing your boys home - it's so exciting! We'll definitely pray about Philip's transition to English and really this upcoming time of language transition for all of you.

I'm keeping the Mooneyhams up to speed, and they send their love and prayers, too. Barrett just lost her 2nd tooth this week, so we're right there with you on that. Also, Parker got a great report from his oncologist Tuesday. We're 2 years, 5 months out from transplant and leukemia free! Glory to God!

Love you guys so much! Keep the posts coming - we're hanging on every word!
